About the Center

A living room
for the city.

The Center for Architecture + Design believes design belongs to everyone. Through youth education, exhibitions, public programs, and community partnerships, we inspire curiosity, foster civic engagement, and help people understand how design shapes the places we call home.

The public front door to design.

Located in the heart of downtown at 140 Sutter Street, the Center is San Francisco's premier cultural destination for the built environment. As the public-facing arm of AIA San Francisco, we serve as a gallery, forum, and gathering space where design meets the community. Whether you are attending an exhibition, renting our high-design venue, or joining a lecture, you are participating in a movement to shape a more resilient and beautiful city.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit established by AIA San Francisco, the Center fosters public dialogue about architecture, design, and the built environment across the Bay Area through exhibitions, talks, tours, and film series. In 2023, we reopened following renovations funded by the Shape Your City Capital Campaign, which expanded our public spaces for exhibitions and community engagement.

AIASF provides the expertise. The Center provides the experience. Together, we are the headquarters for the built environment in San Francisco.
